Chapter 9: Everything OK?

T he following morning, she declared in the daily meeting,

“We have been having a good occupancy rate of 80% plus these days, which as projected is only going to increase. I can see Nitin and you folks are working seamlessly with each other to give the guests the hotel experience that we have been discussing from day one. The little mistakes and goof-ups, I am sure, you can handle them and it is with this confidence, I will be returning home tomorrow. I wish you all the best and I am sure you people will only make me prouder and prouder with every given moment. Thank you.”

That morning, Sadhvi had skipped the gym and had instead called Nitin to discuss things with him, during which she had told him of her decision to leave. So, in the meeting, they gave a big bouquet of roses to felicitate her as well as Josh.

Sadhvi and Josh had yet not spoken to each other. When the meeting was over, she was the first one to walk out. Josh had to run to catch up with her. “Why the sudden decision to leave?”

“My work here is done, Josh,” said Sadhvi.

“It feels like you are running away from here, from us. I won’t stop you, but I won’t let you go without showing you my two most favourite places in this town. Now please go to your room and pack, then finish whatever work you have here, I will do the same, and let’s meet by three,” said Josh.

“Josh…” Sadhvi protested, but Josh started to walk away and replied, “No point in me staying after you are gone, right? I have to pack too and say my goodbyes before I check-out tomorrow, Sadhvi. Let’s not waste time and meet at three. Three. Don’t be late.” Then he disappeared.

Sadhvi remained at the same spot where Josh had left her for a couple of minutes. She was annoyed at herself for not standing up to him. She then made a mental check-list of all the things she wanted to accomplish and got to work. Once her work in the hotel was done, she went to her room to pack. While placing her clothes in the bag, she started mumbling to herself.

Such an asshole! If he doesn’t like me, why is he insisting on spending my last day with him? So difficult to stand around him and not expect. I know how it ends. First, he left his wife, then his family, then his city. How do I expect him to stand by me, then? He is just like… Sadhvi took a deep breath … Raunaq. He is, I know that and I can’t let him or anyone else hurt me ever again.

Game face on, darling. Game face on. It is just one evening. All I have to do is remain cordial with him and expect nothing.

She was still packing, when she heard a knock on the door. She opened it to see, Josh standing with a big smile on his face.
